Part of our complete guide: Google Business Profile: the complete guide for owners.
A suspension means Google found something on the profile that breaks its guidelines. A soft suspension keeps the profile visible but locks edits. A hard suspension removes it from Search and Maps. The steps to fix both are the same, but a hard suspension is more urgent.
Step by step
Read the notice and find the reason
Google sends an email and shows a message on the profile. Note the policy it names. If it names none, check the common causes in the next section against your profile.
Fix the problem on the profile
Correct the business name so it matches your signboard, fix the address and phone number, hide the address if you are a service-area business, remove any managers you do not know, and delete extra profiles for the same place.
Collect proof that the business is real
Keep clear scans or photos ready. In India these are usually the GST registration certificate, shop and establishment licence, Udyam registration, or a recent electricity or phone bill. The name and address must match the profile exactly. Add photos of your signboard and the inside of the place.
Submit the reinstatement request
Open Google’s appeals form from the notice or from Google’s help page, fill in the details and upload your documents. Explain in two or three sentences what you changed.
Wait and watch your email
Google replies by email. It can take several days. Do not send the request again and again, and do not make big changes while you wait.
If you are refused, change what they flagged
Read the reply, correct the exact point, and ask again with better proof. The Google Business Profile Community forum is the place to ask for help from experienced volunteers.
What our team at MapBoost does instead
Most suspensions start with small things that went wrong over time: a name that drifted, details that stopped matching, a category that was added in a hurry. We keep your profile right, so those problems do not build up.
If your profile is already suspended, ask us on a call. We will look at it and tell you plainly what we can and cannot do. Reinstatement is Google’s decision, and we do not promise it.

Common reasons profiles are suspended
- Keywords or extra words in the business name, such as a city or service.
- A virtual office, co-working desk or P.O. box used as the address.
- A service-area business showing a home address publicly.
- Name, address or phone number that does not match the website or signboard.
- Duplicate profiles for the same business or address.
- Changing the name, address and category all at once on an established profile.
- Categories or services the business does not truly offer.
Soft or hard suspension?
A soft suspension shows your profile on Maps but you cannot edit it and it may stop appearing in results. A hard suspension takes the profile off Search and Maps altogether. Google’s notice tells you which one you have.
Common mistakes
- Creating a new profile for the same business. It can make a suspension permanent.
- Sending documents with a different name or address from the profile.
- Appealing before you fix the cause. Google will refuse it.
- Using keywords in the name again after reinstatement.
- Paying anyone who promises guaranteed reinstatement. Only Google decides.
Questions people ask
What should I do when my Google Business Profile is suspended?
Read Google’s notice, fix the problem it names, gather documents that match your business name and address, and submit a reinstatement request through Google’s appeals form. Do not create a new profile.
Why did Google suspend my Business Profile?
Common causes are keywords in the business name, a virtual office or P.O. box as address, a service-area business showing its address, details that do not match your signboard or website, or duplicate profiles.
How long does a Google Business Profile reinstatement take?
Google usually replies by email within days, though some cases take longer. Sending the request again does not speed it up.
Is a Google Business Profile suspension permanent?
Not always. Many suspended profiles are reinstated after the problem is fixed and proof is provided. Creating duplicates or repeating violations can lead to a permanent block.
What documents do I need for a reinstatement request in India?
Documents that show your exact business name and address, such as a GST registration certificate, shop and establishment licence, Udyam registration or a recent utility bill, plus photos of your signboard and premises.
What is the difference between a soft and a hard suspension?
With a soft suspension your profile may still appear on Maps but you cannot edit it. With a hard suspension the profile is removed from Search and Maps.
Can I create a new profile if mine is suspended?
No. A second profile for the same business is treated as a duplicate and can make things worse. Fix and appeal the original.
Will I lose my reviews if my profile is suspended?
Reviews belong to the profile they were written on, so a new profile starts with none. That is another reason to appeal the original rather than start again.
Can anyone guarantee that my profile will be reinstated?
No. Google alone decides. Be careful with anyone who promises a guaranteed result or asks for large payment up front.
